#69 Anak

The slow-rock ballad Anak (Child) by singer-song writer Freddie Aguilar was  the only biggest international hit to come from the Philippines in the late 1970s.

First released in the Philippines in 1978, Anak won gold, platinum and double platinum record awards. The song was later released overseas and in more than 26 different foreign languages. It was a No.1 hit in countries like Japan, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Malaysia to name a few.

Aside from its litling melody and fine guitar passages, the song has strong emotive powers that resonate with many listeners. Aguilar wrote another hit Bayan Ko which firmly established his iconic status in the Philippines, but it was Anak that swept him to the top charts outside the country.
